Introduction Post: Tell us about Yourself!

Let’s get acquainted! An essential component of any book club is introductions! Please post your general introduction. Feel free to post as much or as little as you wish for your intro! Some things you might include in your intro:

  1. Name and department/unit/job at UTA.
  2.  A bit about yourself that you wish to share (e.g., hobbies, personal and/or professional interests, life outside of UTA!).
  3. What you think of the book (title, author, topic, etc.)
  4. Since this is a book club, feel free to include what types of books you read and any recommended tiles for future book clubs with the WFSN!

  1. Hello! I’m Soyla Santos, Associate Director for the Graduation Help Desk and the WFSN Staff Co-Chair Elect. I’m also an adjunct professor for the Art & Art History Dept. When away from the office, I’m an artist – primarily, a painter. I enjoy spending time with my family and 2 dogs. I’m excited to dig into Be Fierce and learn from Gretchen Carlson’s story. Since I typically prefer non-fiction books, I’m looking forward to finishing Be Fierce and learning from everyone in the book club!

  2. My name is Kathy Priester, Coordinator in the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department, 10 years working at UTA, and UTA alum (Information Systems BS and MS). When I’m not at UTA, I’m the primary caregiver for both my elderly parents — my second full-time job. Favorite pastime: digging in the dirt, no gloves, like the feeling of dirt under my fingernails, connecting to nature, watching things grow. I’m looking forward to reading Be Fierce, love the title.

  3. My Name is Chaitali Bonke and I am from the Department of Enrollment Management Data and Research. I joined UTA as an Application Support Specialist a few months back. I am also an alumni and I graduated in the May of 2018 (Management Information Systems). I have a lot of hobbies like stamp/ souvenir collecting, reading books, gardening and travelling in my spare time. I am eagerly awaiting to read ‘Be Fierce’ and learning something more.

  4. Lisa Berry, Director, LINK Research Lab. This is the beginning of my 15th year at UTA. Prior to my current position, I worked with undergraduate and graduate student success programs in SOAR (now known as University Tutorial) and the Office of Graduate Studies (Graduate School at one point in time). I love to read. I will read anything – academic articles on a variety of topics (not just my academic field) books, online news feeds, instructions, food labels, recipes, bathroom walls….

  5. Good Day,

My name is Mistie Maskil and I am a Graduation Counselor for the Gradteam working with graduate students. I am also an alumni from UTA with my BA in Psychology and just recently earned my Master’s in Library Science from TWU. My next educational goal is to be able to get some teaching under my belt in a college setting. I am an avid reader and I coordinate two of my own book clubs for over ten years. I am also a writer and have decided to try NaNoWriMo this November. I am a world traveler and I have been known to dabble in photography.

I am definitely interested in reading this book, I have heard of the author, and other books that can educator or just be about women empowerment. I read all types of books from fantasy to romance to young adult to non-fiction. I would love to recommend
    1. “Girl, Wash Your Face: Stop Believing the Lies about Who You Are So You Can Become Who You Were Meant to Be” by Rachel Hollis and “Dare to Lead”
    2. “Dare to Lead” by Brene Brown
    3. “The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business” by Charles Duhigg

    Warmly,
    Mistie Maskil

  6. Hi Everyone! My name is Peggy Semingson. I totally love book clubs of all kinds! I am an associate professor in the Dept of Curriculum and Instruction. I mainly teach online courses in Literacy Studies.

Book genres I like include non-fiction, biographies, classics, and post-modern novels. Honestly, I mostly read online and on my phone these days.

I see this book, “Be Fierce” as a sort of memoir-ish book with personal narrative from Gretchen Carlson plus “other people’s stories” about the topic of sexual harassment. Looking forward to connecting with everyone on Wednesday!

Be sure to check out Gretchen Carlson’s website! https://www.gretchencarlson.com/
