Hi everyone! I am Peggy Semingson, associate professor of TESOL in COLA at UTA. I have been interested in sustainability education for many years. My main interests tie to learning more about taking action with sustainability with a focus on education of K-12 and adults through engaging texts and materials. I am especially interested in how multimedia and social media can be leveraged (i.e., digital learning) to inform about sustainability topics. Animal conservation is near and dear to my heart as I grew up in various places in Alaska and also the Southern California coast and was able to observe the way the ecosystem impacted both humans and animals. At the same time, the pandemic has caused concern for many on the ways that climate changes and other disasters can trigger or contribute to pandemics. We must prevent climate change from worsening and horrible pandemics like this one from happening.

  2. Hello,

My name is Erick C. Jones Jr. and I am a new assistant professor in Industrial, Manufacturing, and Systems Engineering here at UTA. My research interests include energy and resilience and climate adaptation and mitigation. I research these topics with mathematical modeling, integrated assessment models, and engineered data acquisition and control systems.
I have worked in the energy space in a variety of ways from oil and gas to renewable energy modeling to energy poverty.
I have read quite a few energy transition books like Electrify: An Optimists Playlist, but have not read the Drawdown yet and am excited to discuss it with other sustainability interested people.

  6. Welcome, Peggy! Your dedication to sustainability education is commendable. How do you envision incorporating multimedia and social media into K-12 and adult education to effectively raise awareness about sustainability issues? Also, considering your background in diverse ecosystems, how can experiences from Alaska and Southern California inform educational approaches to animal conservation in other regions?
