Congratulations to The Leaf Peepers, winners of the November 2, 2017 Pitch of the Week (POW!) Preliminary Challenge. Team members include Cam Nguyen, a senior Computer Science major, Clarissa Osagie, a junior Biochemistry/Biology double major who minors in Creative Writing, and Nathan Sundquist, a senior Economics major who minors in Business Administration. This week’s randomly drawn prompt was comprised of beer brewing, vacuum molding machine and sticky notes. The Leaf Peepers pitched a system for custom designed vacuum molded beer bottles and kegs, using sticky notes as an easy to learn labeling system for new employees. The Leaf Peepers will advance to the final round of POW! to be held on Thursday, November 30 from noon-1:00 in the UTA FabLab. Each member of the winning team at the final round will receive $50 gift cards.
Also playing today were The Wild Turkeys, including Subrat Parajuli, a sophomore Electrical Engineering major who minors in Sustainable Engineering, and Gincy Thomas, a junior Marketing and Management major. Each of these competitors get a $10 gift card just for playing! Because six registrants didn’t show up, we only had two teams in this round.
I want to thank our volunteer judges: Dr. Peter Crouch, Dean of UTA’s College of Engineering, Dr. Laurel Stvan, Chair of UTA’s Department of Linguistics, and Chris Tracey, entrepreneur and founder of CenterSpace co-working space in downtown Arlington; and of course, thanks to our wonderful emcee, Tessa White, for making this event amazing!
Preliminary round #2 will be held next Thursday, November 9, also from noon-1:00 in the UTA FabLab. Come on out and join us, or tune into the Facebook Live stream!
