Teams Meetings Now Offer Live Captions and Transcripts, More Languages
Your Teams meetings are about to get a lot smoother (and more inclusive).
Microsoft Teams now offers live captioning and transcriptions, and in dozens of languages and dialects. The rollout of these features is already under way and should reach every user in a matter of weeks. This update will improve accessibility for many users, for instance different levels of hearing and language proficiency.
The transcription feature is both real-time and post-meeting, so attendees can refer to the notes during the meeting and after. Also, the live transcription can be set to start automatically with the recording.
The captioning feature means mobile users will be able to view captions in any supported language, and desktop users will even be able to switch languages during a meeting.
Here’s an updated list of the supported languages and dialects: Arabic (Saudi Arabia & UAE), Chinese (Cantonese & Mandarin), Danish, Dutch (Belgium & Netherlands), English (Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, UK, US), Finnish, French (Canada & France), German, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish (Mexico & Spain), and Swedish.
Please Note:
Transcripts are available only for scheduled meetings (those scheduled through the Outlook calendar or Teams calendar.) Transcripts are not available for Meet Now or Channel meetings.
Users are advised to use scheduled meetings to ensure recordings have transcripts or follow the process for importing a recording into Stream Classic so a transcript can be generated.
