The purpose of this project is to apply the concept of Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) and Virtual Power Plant (VPP) to develop a web-based area monitoring and control system to coordinate among utility grid, energy storage system and distributed energy resources. With the recent development of Integrated Grid Planning (IGP), Non-Wire Option, and Integrated Distributed Energy Resources (IDER), the proposed design can provide sustainable and reliable power supply during unexpected power outages for urban communities. The conceptual design of the proposed system, depending upon the requirements, different data types and sampling rates are monitored by the proposed system. High sampling rate data (voltage, current and frequency) will be used to monitor critical facilities, and low sampling rate data (power/energy consumption) will be analyzed for possible demand response studies in the electricity market.
