PROJECT 6 : Materials Prediction by Simulations for Sustainable Engineering Development

The success of any Engineering discipline traditionally depends to some extent on the serendipity of the natural selection of materials. For sustainable development of resilient urban infrastructure, a new generation of lightweight, and durable material discovery is necessary. Rather than selecting and optimizing traditional materials for an engineering application, this RET project explores the possibility to invent “tailored” materials with desired properties solely from our knowledge of the periodic table of elements. From our recent and ongoing UTA projects mainly funded by NSF, we have been successfully developing computational methodologies for materials discovery of “unknown” materials with experimental verification.
