Laura Thomason

Laura received her Bachelors of Art in Education in 1999 from Texas Wesleyan University.  She went on to get her Masters in Curriculum & Instruction from Concordia University Texas in 2012.  She has been teaching since 1999.  Until 2018, she was a middle school math teacher/designer.  In 2018 she became the Project Lead the Way designer for Jerry Knight STEM Academy.   Laura is able to teach most of the Gateway curriculum and has also taught a Digital Arts course, Intro to Film & Media Arts as well as a STEM Careers course.  Being at Jerry Knight STEM Academy has allowed her to take her teaching to new heights and to grow as an educator. She uses project-based learning and the engineering design process with her 6th-8th graders.  The learners work collaboratively with each other while utilizing industry grade technology when appropriate.  Laura continues to work to improve as an educator and wants to stay relevant with the learners in her class.  In 2023-2024, Laura will remain as a STEM Designer at Jerry Knight STEM Academy.  She will continue to teach multiple classes to the 6th, 7th, and 8th graders but will also be the schools Testing Coordinator.  When she is not at work she loves to travel, keep up with her 3 young adult children, supporting the Summit High School sports teams where her husband is a coach, and wrangling all the four-legged pets at her house.
