2023 RET Projects
The participating teachers benefit from active and hands-on training in Sustainable and Resilient Infrastructure for Urban Communities-themed research projects at UT Arlington. The group activities will allow the teachers to be involved in state-of-the-art research techniques, sustainability and resilience issues for urban communities, and the application of various STEM topics in research. The specific objectives are to improve teachers’ ability to incorporate engineering topics into their course modules, to improve students’ perceptions of and interest in STEM majors and careers, and to improve student engagement in STEM learning.
Participants are working with UT Arlington researchers on research projects for six weeks during the summer, and follow-up activities at the schools and classrooms of the participating teachers are being undertaken. As a result of the experiences, teachers will have the opportunity to relate “real world” issues to their students from engineering and research perspectives, including discussions of ethical implications.
