Message from the Center – April 2020

Thank you to all our UTA families for your patience and understanding during these trying times. The Parent and Family Center is proud to say that we have been doing our part to follow social distancing measures by protecting and supporting our student workers and team members and allowing them to work from home. We transitioned to online meetings and communication the moment that UTA closure policies were put in place last month to ensure the security and safety of our team and family members. Although we miss seeing our UTA students, parents, and families face-to-face, we want to assure you that we are continuing to work hard to provide you with updated, clear and relevant information that is pertinent to you and your maverick.

A few updates to keep you in the loop:

  • Our team continues to collaborate with other UTA departments to plan exciting events for you and your family in the future. Our very first orientation session for freshmen this year will be April 17th and will be held entirely online! As shelter in place policies change, we will continue to keep you up to date on upcoming virtual events and traditional summer and fall events.
  •  We have launched our very own Parent and Family Blog: The Maverick Guardian. Our monthly blog is a creatively, student-focused addition to the Maverick Communication Portal, which is foundationally family-centered.  You’ll hear direct accounts from UTA students, faculty, and staff regarding UTA specific benefits, resources, and services. We also hope to provide an in-depth look into trending topics that are of importance to the college experience.
  • Finally, our very own director, Casey Gonzales, has announced his retirement this semester. Casey launched the Parent & Family Center in 2007 to establish, maintain, and enhance communication between families and the UTA community. His priceless contributions to our department and to the university, in general, have made Casey an integral part of our family and community. We are sad to see him go but also excited for his future ventures!

Again, thank you so much for your continued support while we transition through all these changes. We are excited about the future and look forward to providing you with an exciting UTA experience in the coming months. In the meantime, please be sure to read through the information provided in this portal and remember that we are here to help! Please contact our office and we will do our best to meet your needs.

Your UTA Parent & Family Team
