Skylark

2018-2019

2017 Skylark is a three bedroom, two bath home finished at 1,630 square feet. The homes final design was completed with consideration of the Housing Channel’s particular needs, while challenging the current design fabric of the neighborhood. The intent was to create a home with continuous living spaces, interjected with a series of courtyards to enhance the sense of openness within the home.

Within the floor plan, the spatial organization is anchored on the idea of a datum wall, holding a series of storage areas and services. It acts as a threshold, bookcases, seating, a stackable laundry unit, and serves as closets within all three bedrooms. By locating this datum along the primary circulation path, every room can activate the datum as necessary in a series of independent uses. The three courtyards are activated by branching off the datum and main living spaces of the home. All are shaded from West sunlight to encourage outdoor living. The courtyards also serve to connect the home back to the neighborhood.

2017 Skylark intends to build upon the strong sense of community that is tangible among the residents surrounding our site.
