Situational Kiosks

2016

The Spring 2016 semester of Parallel Construction worked towards designing pavilions for the City of Arlington. These pavilions will help the integration of new public transportation as programmed “bus stops,” becoming community hubs to display public information and other purposes deemed necessary by students and their research. A thorough analysis of the City of Arlington was presented in a series of maps that stressed a connection between three vital parts; Downtown district, University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) and the Entertainment district.
Each student was tasked to design a pavilion, propose a location and secondary programs. These proposed pavilions served as bus stops, seating, bike racks and small business pop ups. Of fifteen proposals, three were selected to be constructed on site at UTA. With three pavilions, three teams drafted detailed construction documents as proof of constructability and guidelines for the students to then construct themselves.
