Enhancing Campus Connectivity: Two Key Wireless Initiatives
The Office of Information Technology is leading two major efforts to strengthen the campus wireless network.
Campus Wireless Improvement Project This initiative focuses on enhancing Wi-Fi coverage in all campus locations where connectivity has traditionally been weak or inconsistent.
700 new wireless access points ordered
350 currently deployed
UTA now has more than 5,000 access points across campus
OIT is conducting in-depth wireless surveys, analyzing signal strength and usage patterns, and strategically adding or relocating access points to boost performance and reliability in these targeted zones.
Work is expected to be completed in December 2025.
Campus Wi-Fi Hardware Refresh As part of a broader upgrade, OIT is replacing 4,500 Mist AP43 access points with newer Mist AP45 models.
What to expect with the new models:
Improved speed
Stability
Prepares the campus for selective deployment of Wi-Fi 6 and 6E technologies in high-traffic areas such as the Library and University Center
While Wi-Fi 6E is not yet available campus-wide, this upgrade lays the foundation for future expansion.
All models are expected to be upgraded by June 2026.
