The Office of Sustainability is introducing a new dashboard that shows The University of Texas at Arlington’s environmental impact.

Detailed information can be found on UTA’s energy usage in the following areas on the dashboard:

  1. Food
  2. Waste
  3. Greenhouse gas emissions
  4. Transportation
  5. Energy
  6. Water

Chief sustainability officer, Meghna Tare, said transparency is a key reason the dashboard was created. “We are working on having a climate action plan for UTA where we are setting specific goals and targets for ourselves,” Tare said, “and when you embark on that, it is important to show the progress.”

The Office of Information Technology began helping the Office of Sustainability develop this project at the beginning of April 2023.

OIT built the dashboard within the Maverick Analysis and Reporting System (MARS); a tool that will allow UTA the ability to track its progress and make data-driven decisions.

The dashboard will have frequent updates as new information becomes available.

“We have so much collective knowledge and expertise at UTA with faculty, researchers and practitioners,” said Tare. “My goal is that those people will come in and collaborate and help us do better.”
