Microsoft Teams: Ultrasound Howling Detection in Teams Meetings

Microsoft is introducing a new update to assist users who join the same Teams meeting as other users in the same physical room. The update will be available on Teams Desktop client for Windows and macOS.

Currently, a feedback loop is created when multiple users in a Teams meeting are in the same room. With Microsoft’s update, a user joining a meeting will be notified that another Teams device for the meeting has been detected nearby and is using audio. Teams will automatically mute the microphone and speakers of the person that joined to prevent any echo. These can be turned back on at any time.
