Wiki Retirement and the Future of Note Taking in Teams Channels
The way users take and share notes in Teams will soon be changing.
Microsoft is retiring the Wiki function from Teams and is instead offering note taking capabilities through OneNote.
When the retirement begins in February, users will have the option to export their Wiki content to OneNote notebooks in their Teams channel. After exporting, users can go to the Notes tab to collaborate using OneNote. With this change, users can continue to access and edit existing Wiki content, but won’t be able to create new Wiki content in Teams channels.
Users can currently create OneNote tabs manually using the add tab experience (via the ‘+’ button). In the future, Notes tabs powered by OneNote will be added by default when users create new channels.
Users who utilize OneNote will experience an enhanced notetaking experience, including some of the benefits listed below:
Easy collaboration across the team
Single location for all channel notes in a team
Rich editing with typing, ink annotations, highlighting, file attachments, etc.
Easy recall and search for channel notes within OneNote on any platform
