To increase security and safety, users accessing UTA email will need to use Modern Authentication for access.

Exchange, commonly referred to as Outlook, currently has two authentication methods: Basic Authentication and Modern Authentication.

Basic Authentication requires a username and password with each login request – increasing the risk of attacks on personal information and University data.

Modern Authentication is a term that covers a broad category of secure user authentication methods. Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is the primary type of Modern Authentication used at UTA to access email. Most modern email applications made in 2016 or after support MFA.

Users are encouraged to proactively enable Modern Authentication to ensure that there is no interruption in services. Confirm that Modern Authentication is enabled in the web browser or application used to access your UTA email. While your primary device may be in compliance, it is possible that your secondary computer, tablet, or phone is not.

OIT will identify and directly contact Basic Authentication users to make the switch. Failure to update to Modern Authentication may result in a disruption to your email access until updated.

Please refer to this Modern Authentication for Mail Knowledge Base article for more information on accessing your UTA email on your device.

If you believe that Modern Authentication will disrupt your work, please contact the IT Help Desk by chat, submitting a self-service ticket, or calling 817-272-2208.
