Teams meeting organizers will soon be able to pre-create breakout rooms and pre-assign participants before the start of a channel or private meeting.

A new tab in the scheduling form called Breakout Rooms will enable meeting organizers to enable these options before a meeting begins.

This upgrade also includes these enhancements:

  • Create or delete rooms in bulk
  • Add, delete, and rename individual rooms
  • Configure meeting options for each room
  • Adjust settings for each room (timer, breakout room manager, and more)
  • Pre-assign participants via manual or automatic assignment

Breakout rooms will be managed via the Breakout Room panel during the live meeting.  Meeting organizers or the breakout room manager must join the meeting.  Only participants who were directly invited to the meeting will be available for pre-assignment.  Up to 300 participants can be pre-assigned to breakout rooms.  This update will be available for Teams desktop users in the coming months.
