An important update has been deployed to Microsoft Teams.  Chat messages sent during a Teams meeting now display as pop-up bubbles on screen and are visible to all participants.

Previously, Teams users needed to manually open a chat window to view the chat screen, but this update makes the chat more central to the conversation.

This feature impacts meetings only and can be turned off in the settings by selecting “Don’t show chat bubbles.” The chat function on the right side of the screen will still be available by selecting the “Show Chat” icon at the top of the screen.
