Starting Sunday, January 10, anyone accessing their UTA email or Outlook using the old login screen displaying a grey box will be updated to the modern authentication method already used by majority of the faculty, staff, and students. Users who previously signed in using the grey box will now see a two-step screen to enter their email address and password when accessing Outlook through their browser or desktop application. It will also display a university background.

Here are a few things faculty, staff, and students should know:

Basic and Modern Authentication when logging into Outlook

  • After the change, all faculty, staff, and students accessing their UTA email will be prompted to login to all devices including phones using their email address and password.
  • Off-campus users signing into an email application for the first time will be required to use multi-factor authentication through Microsoft Authenticator.
  • Multi-factor Authentication will still be required with each attempt when logging in through a web-browser from off-campus.
  • Older email applications that do not have the capabilities to accept modern authentication methods will be prompted and continue to sign in using the old login page that displays the grey box.

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please contact the IT Help Desk at 817-272-2208, send a chat, or submit a self-service ticket.
