Meeting organizers will soon be able to choose from three new options for moderating the Chat during Teams meetings.

The new options will be found under More Actions > Meeting Options.

Where to access these options

“On” is the default setting and allows meeting participants to use the Chat to send messages any time during the meeting.

A use case for this might include meetings that encourage participation or when participants may not have microphones.

“Turn Meeting Chat Off” will set the Chat to read-only during the meeting.  This means that participants and the meeting organizer will not be able to send messages during the meeting.

A use case for this might be during more formal meetings that are less participatory and more informational.

“Only During the Meeting” will allow Chat to be active only during the duration of the meeting.  This means that Chat is disabled for participants after the meeting ends. Meeting organizers can still enter messages into the meeting Chat after the meeting ends.

A use case for this might be where you wish to encourage participation and capture participant’s feedback during the meeting itself, but not allow participants to continue posting information into the Chat after the meeting concludes.
