Sumerian Accounting Tablet (Ca. 2200-1900 B.C.E.)

The Sumerians were known for their various discoveries and inventions. Perhaps one of the most important of these discoveries was the cuneiform, small pieces of wet clay upon which scribes used pictographs etched into the clay with wedged-shaped instruments. The Sumerians developed the cuneiform, which means “wedged-shaped,” more than 5000 years ago.
