New Scholarship For Honors Liberal Arts Students

The Honors College is offering a new scholarship this semester named after former Dean Dr. Karl Petruso.

The Karl M. Petruso Scholarship for Fieldwork in the Liberal Arts was created in an effort to attract more liberal arts students to the Honors College. All liberal arts students enrolled in the Honors College are eligible to apply.

“I thought this might be an opportunity to raise the visibility of the honors college among liberal arts students in all disciplines,” said Dr. Petruso. “The more we talked about it, the more we decided that it might be appropriate to target it to students who wanted to do field research toward their Honors Senior project.” Continue reading

7 Great Moments Of Fall 2017

This semester we achieved milestones that left us with plenty of memories and inspiration to continue moving forward. More students have been engaged in Honors activities than ever before.

As the college grows, so do the bonds between the community. No doubt, Fall 2017 is one for the books.

Now here are seven moments this semester worth noting.

To start, the college welcomed a record number of students — 216 to be exact — at our fall 2017 induction ceremony.

Former Honors Dean Receives Lifetime Service Award

Former Honors College Dean Dr. Karl Petruso recently received a Lifetime Service Award at the annual Great Plains Honors Council (GPHC) Conference in Beaumont, Texas.

The GPHC  “promotes the flow of information, ideas, fellowship and professional encouragement throughout its member programs” with various colleges in several states.

Dr. Petruso was Dean from 2008 to 2016. As an anthropology professor, he specializes in Aeagean anthropology from the bronze and stone ages. He has also participated in archaeological excavations in Greece, Egypt and Portugal. His fieldwork has received fellowship support from the American School of Classical Studies at Athens, the University of London and the Fulbright Commission, as well as grant funding from both the federal government and private foundations.
