Challenge was the word of the night at The Honors College induction ceremony to inaugurate the college’s newest students where interim Dean Dr. Gustafson spoke about the importance of leadership roles for the UTA community.
“We are an idealistic place,” he said. “We want you to dream big, and we want you to take advantage of the scholarship opportunities that will help you realize those dreams.”
Several students were also awarded scholarships to help fund their academic endeavors. Gustafson reminded students of their merit and value to the university.
“You are in the Honors College because you belong here. There was no mistake, no accident in your admission. Believe me,” said Gustafson. “Because we want you to become the best version of yourself, the Honors College will challenge you. Your professors will challenge you.”
Honors College Committee President Ginny Morris also spoke about the semester’s theme: “Challenge Accepted” which focuses on building and collaborating at the Honors College.
“[We are] here to create a community,” she said. “ And a community that isn’t just held together by the academic pressures of college, but by making real friendships and connections with people who may not share your major, but who do share the same vision and passion for education that you have.”
