Abstract

A blockchain application with the goal to promote a zero carbon footprint future through promoting our Recycle-to-Earn model.

Background

ZeroCarbon is a system that will generate a coin, based on an ERC-20 token, for the user every time they recycle or dispose of trash in the appropriate container. The idea of ZeroCarbon is to give value to the action of recycling and helping the environment. The team is developing a cryptocurrency to reward individuals who correctly recycle. It will create a currency for users based on an ERC-20 token every time they recycle or dispose of trash in the proper container. For the average person, there are currently insufficient recycling incentives and means to recycle items, and most of them lack significant motivation.

System Overview

We will build a system that will create crypto for users based on an ERC-20 token every time
they recycle or dispose of trash in the proper container. We’ll deploy a bar-code scanner and computer
vision to evaluate the product under the hood. There will be a front-end that will open the user’s
device camera and prompt to scan the object. If we find the product’s information by bar code, that’s
great. If not, we’ll use computer vision to identify the object and generate the number of tokens based
on that.

Future Work

As initial level scaling, we are planning to target a few recycle bins that are mostly around the University of Texas at Arlington campus. As we build the minimum viable product, more options will open up for this project. We will also be able to expand the business aspect of this cryptocurrency network as we can partner with recycling companies like Waste management inc., TDS, TerraCycle, etc.

To bring this project to a higher level, a concrete team is needed with an advanced technical skillset with blockchain and cryptocurrency backgrounds. The team needs to perform continued development, business dealings, time to time application updates, bug fixes, maintenance activities, and customer service.
