Abstract

We Advise is a web app which facilitates either an advisor or a student regarding their academic advising. Currently, there is not any web application available which helps students get their advising online. WeAdvise offers students to Get in line, Online through the website. Students have to wait in
the queue for an hour just to get themselves advised, Students do not know how long they have to wait to meet their advisors, Advisors are unaware of how many students are in the advising list. These are some of the things that are missing in the present advising process. WeAdvise is the solution for such problems that students and advisors are facing. WeAdvise makes students easier to meet the advisor of their preference in a time-efficient way. The main vision of WeAdvise is to overcome a long waiting time to meet an advisor from anywhere using any kind of browser

Background

CSE Academic advising is the process of academic advisors to assist students in discussing their educational plans and making appropriate course selections. For each undergraduate student in computer science, computer engineering, or software engineering major, advising is required each semester before enrolling in courses. Students have to visit advisors in available advising hours to discuss their educational plans to get assist in progressing toward their degree. Also, students may need to meet advisors to reevaluate their progress whether drop a class or swap a class.
Currently, we have four academic advisors in our CSE department. However, the waiting time of meeting an advisor usually may take more than one hour due to the high demand for advising. Students need to wait outside of the advisor’s office to keep track of the current advising queue. It is not efficient to have students come almost one hour early to wait for advising and check the waiting line with a paper of one list of waiting students. During the advising time, advisors need to mark the class that the students have taken based on their degree plan. This process might increase the waiting time for students who wait for advising. To increase the efficiency of advising and shorten the waiting time for students, our We Advise system is designed to set up schedules, display degree plans and add other features to allow a better advising experience for students and advisors
