Teaching

I first taught in Houston, Texas in 1988 after completing my student teaching in Lancaster city in Pennsylvania. My assignment was in a Spanish style Middle School teaching 7th grade math. During my teaching of 7th and 8th grade I also coached Number Sense and Math Counts. Following this I taught at several High Schools in Texas, and quite possibly have taught every subject other than Calculus for more than one year. I took a brief vacation from teaching to spend more time with my son and during this time period I substituted in a tri-county area in Pennsylvania in a huge number of schools. This experience, as well as many other years of teaching full-time has added greatly to my ability as a teacher. Next year I look forward to beginning my 20th year as a teacher.

Classes

  • During the 2009-2010 academic year I taught Regular Algebra 2 and Regular Pre-Calculus.
  • During the upcoming academic year I plan to teach Honors Algebra 2 and Regular Pre-Calculus.

Interests

I enjoy reading, swimming and doing yard work.

Biography

I was raised in Lancaster County Pennsylvania in the beautiful farmland of the Pennsylvania Dutch people. My mother’s side of the family is Pennsylvania Dutch and I enjoyed the benefits of living in a cloistered environment until moving to Houston at the age of 30. I completed college as a single mother and enjoyed the company of my son until he turned sixteen and went to live with his father in Maryland. I have two lovely granddaughters that are ages 8 and 10 that live in Maryland with their parents. I completed my Master’s Degree in Mathematics with a concentration in Education at the University of Texas Arlington in May of 2008. I have taught math at Sam Houston High School since 2002.
