Emerging Leaders Program

The Emerging Leader Program was designed for doctoral students/candidates and post-doc researchers to grow into current and future leadership roles.  Successful leaders have confidence, skills, and presence to lead teams.  Leadership is constructing and applying knowledge to make a positive difference and impact with others.  Good leadership is expressed through behavior and actions; thus the key element of the Emerging Leadership program is developing situational awareness.  Each session in the program has built-in case scenarios and discussions that participants can apply into practice.

Participants will meet as a cohort six times during the academic year. Three sessions will be in the fall semester and three sessions in the spring session.  Each session is 2 hours in length.  Session topics include: Characteristics of a Leader, Leading vs Managing, Communication Strategies, Emotional Intelligence and Building Resiliency, Time Management, and Conflict Management, just to name a few.  Sessions will include case scenarios for group discussion and guest presenters.  Because of the possible sensitive nature of some of the topics and to allow participants to have open discussion, sessions will not be recorded.
